EARLY YEARS LITERACY
All classes from Prep – 4 have adopted the Early Years approach to teaching Literacy. This involves students being grouped according to their needs, focused 2 hour literacy blocks and parent participation. Parents are invited to attend a Classroom Helpers program held during term 1 of each year and then assist in their child’s class during literacy (and numeracy) sessions. ‘Reading Recovery’ is offered to selected students in Grade 1 requiring support with their reading and writing.

EARLY YEARS NUMERACY
Mathematics at Box Hill North Primary School is exciting. Open-ended tasks and problem solving activities, with a real life application, form an integral part of the maths program in 1/2. We are currently using Early Years Numeracy strategies in the Junior School Classrooms and using the structure and teaching strategies from this program in our Middle and Senior School classes. With the introduction of Interactive Technologies in each classroom, we are able to access exciting curriculum ideas from all over the world, making maths interesting and above all, FUN!
Students are working towards the understandings that; Maths is everywhere. Maths is important. Maths is used everyday.
